- Original gouache painting, depicting a view of the Bay of Naples in Napoli, in the Campania region of Italy, with two figures on the high ground in the foreground, and The Bay of Naples stretching out behind towards a smoking Mount Vesuvius in the distance. This original work is by the Italian artist Maria Gianni (b.1863 ), and is a classic example of her work which mostly depict scenes of Naples and the Neapolitan Riviera.Maria Gianni was born in Naples, Itlay, and was taught to paint by her father, the renowned Neapolitan artist, Girolamo Gianni (1837-1895), (who moved with his family to Malta in 1868, where he became a very successful artist, known for his paintings of Malta, and of the Royal Navy ships that visited the islands). The family returned to Naples in 1887, and settled in Torre del Greco, a town south of Naples, where she initially assisted her father in painting oils, before producing her own watercolors and gouaches of Malta, Naples and The Neapolitan Riviera.- Signed lower left (signature partially obscured by the frame, see image above)- Framed, glazed and ready to hang, in a gilt-trimmed, off-white moulded period frame- Visible painting size 40cm x 16.5cm (approx. 15 3/4 inches x 6 1/2 inches)- Frame size 44.5cm x 21.5cm (approx. 17 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 inches)- The painting is in excellent condition- The frame has a few very minor dinks and some discolouration, commensurate with age, otherwise it is in excellent condition- Would make a truly original gift- This painting will be carefully packaged to prevent damage during shipping- Please contact us for European and Worldwide shipping prices- If you have any questions about this item, please contact us and we will respond within an hour
