Original acrylic painting, depicting Ollie the stylised border collie concentrating on a flock of sheep in a colourful landscape, this comical work is from the 'Whimseycollies' series of paintings, and is by the late English artist Leslie Simpson (1930-2020).

Leslie Simpson was born in Yorkshire and lived in Ilkley for meny years before moving to Harrogate. He studied at art school and became a commercial artist, cartoonist, and painter. His first major commission was an oil painting, which now hangs in Wakefield Town Hall. He soon became a full-time artist, concentrating portraiture, magazine illustration, and architectural painting. He and his wife opened Ilkley’s Castle Art Gallery, and organised the first Yorkshire Artists’ Exhibition in 1981, featuring leading and regional artists, including David Hockney. In 2003 he launched his 'Whimseycollies' series of paintings which became hugely popular, and featured in calendars and children’s story books.
