Original Victorian mixed media painting, depicting a large Victorian fox hunt passing through a village, by the exhibited country sports artist John Sturgess (fl.1864-1903).
John Sturgess was an artist, illustrator and lithographer who principally worked as a hunting and racing artist for "The Illustrated London News", between 1875 and 1885, and also contributed to "The Sporting and Dramatic News" and "The English Illustrated Magazine". He exhibited widely, including at the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Hibernian Society in Dublin, was an accomplished illustrator of books and magazines, and was also a lithographer after his own work.- Signed lower right- Framed, glazed and ready to hang, in an ornate dark gilt/bronze coloured moulded frame- Painting size 14.5cm x 20.5cm (approx. 9 5/8 inches x 8 1/8 inches)- Frame size 38cm x 44cm (approx. 15 inches x 17 1/4 inches)- The painting is in excellent condition- The frame has some rubbing to the gilt, minor nibbles to the corners, and some small losses to the trim, commensurate with age, please see images above, otherwise it is sound and in good condition- Unique gift- All paintings are carefully packaged to prevent damage during shipping- Please contact us for European and Worldwide shipping prices- If you have any questions about this item, please contact us and we will respond within an hour
