John Barrie Haste (1931-2011)
Large original watercolour painting, depicting a view of the River Seine, with the Pont Neuf bridge, and the Royal chapel, the 'Sainte-Chappele'. This original work is by the English artist John Barrie Haste (1931-2011).
John Barrie Haste was born in Rawdon near Leeds and studied at Leeds College of Art and, while serving in the RAF, at Lincoln Art College. Upon leaving the RAF, Barrie, as he preferred to be known, worked in specialist decorating techniques of marbling and intricate sign writing, and taught art to pre-release soldiers at Catterick Garrison and held evening classes, where he made his name teaching the old English tradition of painting landscapes in watercolour. He was influenced by Turner and Cotman and his own work was often associated with that of the great English Masters. He not only grasped their techniques in his paintings of his beloved Yorkshire, but followed them in their footsteps around the Mediterranean. His works featured in many exhibitions, as well as his own very successful one man shows, which culminated in his inclusion in the prestigious "Britain in Watercolour" exhibitions, The Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal institue of Painters in Watercolours
