John Bampfield (b.1947)
Large original oil on canvas painting, depicting British horsemen of the light cavalry regiments at the Charge of the Light Brigade, during the Crimean War against Russia. This moody and atmospheric original work is by the British artist John Bampfield (b.1947 ), and is a classic example of his work on this subject.
John Bampfield was born in Kidderminster, and, upon leaving school, worked in the locally renowned carpet industry up until 1966 when he moved to London. Two years later he relocated to Cornwall, where many internationally known artists converged, and began to develop his artistic ability, influenced by local mentors Ben Maile and Edward Dyer. With the support of a local art gallery and the encouragement of his wife he was soon making a living from the sales of his oil paintings. Today he has a national reputation and is a well-respected and collected professional artist.
