Harley Crossley (1936-2013)
Large original oil on canvas painting of an expansive countryside landscape, depicting the village of Conistone in Upper Wharfedale, in The Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire. This fabulous original work has been created in an impasto style, with the thick application of paint using a palette knife, and is by the listed English artist Harley Crossley (1936-2013)
Harley Crossley was born in Southampton, but he was brought up in Yorkshire as a result of being evacuated to the county during World War 2. He did however return to Southampton to finish his education, and begin his working life in the docks area, where his love, and painting, of marine subjects originated. As well as painting landscapes, seascapes, water mills, windmills, ships and dock scenes, he was one of Britain's foremost waterway artists, and unusually he used only palette knives for his painting in oils. Today his wonderful impasto paintings feature in private and public collections around the world.
