- Large, extremely rare, original limited edition Artist's Proof* print on canvas on board depicting a man and woman dancing the sensual Argentine Tango, this work is beautifully presented in a gallery frame, is entitled 'Tango 2', and is by the renowned, highly collectable Argentine artist Fabian Perez (b.1967 ).*An artist's proof is an impression of a print taken in the printmaking process to show the current printing state of a plate while the plate is being worked. The proof is checked and approved by the artist and, although in theory it is identical to the finished work, it is not included in the final limited edition print count. Artist's proofs belong to the artist, are much more scarce and rare than a normal limited edition print, therefore more valuable, and by convention, the artist would not usually sell these at once.Fabian Perez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He had a difficult childhood, with a father who was a gambler who owned illegal bordellos and nightclubs and was often in trouble with the police. His mother encouraged his artistic talent, and he took art classes as a young adult, but it was never formal training. It is imagery from this past that he draws from, his father being the cool guy outside the nightclubs in his images, and the women are those he saw at his father’s brothels and nightclubs. Tragically he lost his mother when he was 16, and his father when he was 19, after which he lived as a nomad, and immersed himself in martial arts to help cope with his sadness and despair. He met a Japanese Karate master while teaching martial arts, whom he followed to Northern Italy, where he began his career as an artist as a form of escapism. He later moved to Japan and then onto Los Angeles where he lives today with his family.
