- Original watercolour painting, depicting a view of the dramatic 'Kilnsey Crag' rock formation in the Yorkshire Dales, with a shepherd in the foreground with his Border Collie dog and a small flock of sheep, and a dramatic sky above. This original watercolour is by the listed Yorkshire artist Donald Crossley (1932-2014), and is a classic example of his work.Donald Crossley lived in Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire, where he grew up alongside his good friend, poet laureate Ted Hughes. He attended the Hebden Bridge Grammar School, and studied art at evening classes in Todmorden. The photographer Alice Longstaff brought him to wider attention by displaying his work in her shop, and he went on to sell his paintings to admirers and collectors at home and abroad. His works of Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and Pennine landscapes are easily recognisable and often exhibited and some have been published by the National Trust.
