Audrey Dallas-Simpson (1925-1984)

£545.00Price
  • Large original oil painting on board, depicting three street urchin children, making baskets, in a Mediterranean-style scene.  This original work is nicely presented in a gilt frame, and is by the renowned and highly successful British artist Audrey Dallas-Simpson (1925-1984).  This is a classic example of this artist's work, and an extremely rare opportunity to own one of her original works.

Audrey Dallas-Simpson was born in London, and was one of the most prosperous commercial artists of the 1960s.  She moved to Lancing in West Sussex in the mid 60's, and it was from here she achieved phenomenal success through sales of prints of her instantly recognisable paintings, of big-eyed 'urchin style' children.  The prints rivalled the sales of other popular print artists of the period such as Tretchikoff.  She usually signed her work Dallas-Simpson, but also painted under a number of pseudonyms including Emma Louise, Audrey, and Kelita.  The recent interest in retro and kitsch has once again seen a rise in the popularity of these original 1960's prints.
