- Large, original watercolour painting, depicting a view of Holme Moss, West Yorkshire by the renowned British artist Ashley Jackson (b.1940 ).Ashley Jackson was born in Penang, Malaysia, and moved to Yorkshire aged 9. He decided as a teenager that he wanted to be an artist, and after an initial spell as a signwriter, he progressed to becoming a professional artist, opening his first gallery in Dodworth in 1963. He initially used to paint en plein air, but today chooses to use sketchbooks outdoors and paint in his studio. He is one of the country’s best known and most successful watercolour artists, dubbed ‘the Yorkshire Artist’, his evocative paintings are gritty and atmospheric, often depicting gathering storm clouds, or layers of light after the heavens have opened.
